Born from recovery. Giving back by design.
BandJAM's methodology was proven over a decade inside treatment through our founding program, Rock to Recovery® — and we never left.
BandJAM & Rock to Recovery
BandJAM was built on the legacy of Rock to Recovery, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by BandJAM co-founder Wes Geer that pioneered group music-making for well-being. BandJAM licensed Rock to Recovery's evidence-informed method, and today BandJAM's professional JAM Masters deliver Rock to Recovery's group sessions.
The two organizations remain distinct: Rock to Recovery is an independent nonprofit; BandJAM is the group music wellness platform. The heritage numbers on this site — 42,000+ songs written, 110+ care programs, and work with the U.S. Air Force and the Department of Veterans Affairs — reflect the track record built by Rock to Recovery, whose programs now run on the BandJAM platform.

The relationship
Rock to Recovery is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2012 by Wes Geer, that has delivered music-based programs to recovery communities for over a decade.
BandJAM, co-founded in 2025 by Wes Geer and David Carter, is the nonprofit's delivery platform — providing JAM Masters, instruments, sound, scheduling, and recordings for its therapeutic sessions at a deep, below-market discount under a board-approved agreement.
Rock to Recovery independently selects the organizations and populations it serves. BandJAM is proud to be its sister organization and operational partner.
The Shared Impact Model
A participatory model that turns generosity into live, therapeutic music-making — using the same four-step session arc: Gather → Write → Play → Record.
A donor gives
Charitable contributions are made directly to Rock to Recovery, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. 100% of donations stay with the nonprofit.
A recipient organization joins
Rock to Recovery selects recovery nonprofits and treatment programs — such as CRI-Help and The Salvation Army — to receive sponsored sessions.
BandJAM delivers the session
Our JAM Masters run a full Gather → Write → Play → Record session in-kind at a deep discount, so more funding reaches the community.
"Every $100 given creates roughly $325 in real-world therapeutic value."
Estimate based on Rock to Recovery's board-approved below-market rate with BandJAM.
